Small Home - Big Blessings

Before we begin-

Sorry this post is a little bit late! Things have been a little crazy but we will explain why.

A few months ago, we started browsing through homes in our area. We weren't looking to buy at the time- just searching for ideas of what we want in a home. So we connected with a realtor and looked at a couple of homes and townhomes. Nothing really stood out too much, and we continued searching and researching.

We toured a cute home that was on the smaller side but was just built this year. It had all-new appliances and seemed quite nice but we weren't really sold on it. As time went on, we kept looking at places, and many of them would be placed on the market one day and sold the next. We came to realize that the housing market in the St. George area is very hot and competition is fierce. As time went on, interest rates kept dropping- it became apparent to us that this was as good a time as any to buy. Then something else happened- the cute home we had recently toured dropped dramatically in price.

We jumped on it!

We both felt strongly that it was time- we needed to put an offer in. So we placed our offer, and in less than 24 hours, the owners accepted! That's when the REAL work began with all the paperwork and processes associated with buying a home (haha they don't mention any of that stuff on the blissful real estate commercials 😉)

Closing came a LOT sooner than we anticipated. And before we could blink, we had the keys to our new home. This gave us little time to pack up and move but we worked diligently night after night to prepare.

We moved into our new home on Thursday, October 8th. That weekend, we finished moving all our things with the help of Casey's former YSA bishop and his wife. They were such a Godsend!

We are still actively unpacking but we love our home and feel quite comfortable here 😊.

Our New Home - Hurricane, Utah

Now that you've enjoyed our big news with us, we want to share the adventure we took for Troy's birthday last weekend. We decided to spend the weekend in Mesquite, Nevada. We enjoyed being able to take it easy and not worry about our stacks of boxes and to-do list at home.

The hotel pool was too cold for swimming (though Troy did it anyway) so we went to their local rec center and swam indoors. We also enjoyed two nice meals out- the first night there we had some tasty Italian food, and the second night, we had Troy's birthday dinner at Gregory's restaurant in the Eureka casino.

The food was AMAZING! Casey had steak Oscar (filet with crab on top), and Troy had the surf and turf.

They even gave us a free personalized dessert! 😋

When we got back to the room, we were talking about the two different meals we had. The Italian dinner filled us to the brim (mainly with carbs), but after the dinner at Gregory's, we were both full and fully satisfied.

As we sat there talking about this, we thought of how this is true of our lives and the gospel, too. When we live life in a worldly way, we may be "filled" with superficial things- a temporary satisfaction that soon leaves us hungering for more and more. Conversely, when we choose to live life based upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His teachings, we will not only be "filled" but be "fully satisfied".

The Savior taught, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." (Matthew 5:6)

Not only do we feel satisfied when we live the gospel, but we are also promised eternal joy if we endure faithfully through this life. This promise is stated in the Book of Mormon, "But, behold, the righteous, the saints of the Holy One of Israel, they who have believed in the Holy One of Israel, they who have endured the crosses of the world, and despised the shame of it, they shall inherit the kingdom of God, which was prepared for them from the foundation of the world, and their joy shall be full forever." (2 Nephi 9:18)

We were grateful to be able to spend this time together and we felt so blessed to come back to our new home together. We also feel very blessed to have all of you and your continued support and love. We wouldn't be who or where we are without your influences.

Enjoy a few more pictures from our weekend! (And yes, more pictures of the house will come... when it's a little more presentable, haha!)

And... in case you need a Bear fix... here you go 😀

"A little privacy please...?" 😳

  1. Your home buying experience sounds super similar to ours. We’re hoping to close this week, but it sounds like the market is just as competitive at your end of the state as ours. Love you guys!

  3. Troy and Casey, Thanks for the informative blog about your new house- loved hearing about it. The pics are all great- a ray of sunshine for me, as it has been cold, rainy and gray here in PA lately. Casey, you're a such a beautiful young woman- inside and out- and I'm so happy you two have found each other in this crazy world of ours. So sweet that you had that little trip together for Troy's B-day, along with the special meals- such a treat. :) I'm looking forward to seeing the inside of the house sometime soon. (pics) Thanks for the pic of adorable Bear! ;) Love you and miss you, Mom (Karen)
